Abstract
Kvazikristali su čvrsta tijela čije strukture mogu posjedovati kristalografski nedopuštene rotacijske simetrije, primjerice 5. reda i ne posjeduju translacijsku invarijantnost, koja je karakteristična za klasične kristale. Zbog njihove kompleksne strukture razvijeni su mnogi modeli kojima ih možemo opisati. Prema strukturi kvazikristale možemo podijeliti u dvije skupine: ikosaedarske i poligonalne. Iako su najčešće legure sastavljene od dva ili tri metala, vrlo slabo provode električnu struju i toplinu, a zbog niskog koeficijenta trenja, niske toplinske vodljivosti, čvrstoće i otpornosti na koroziju kvazikristale možemo primjeniti na kuhinjska pomagala, u motorima automobila, na operacijskim instrumentima i dr. Također od velike je važnosti i njihova potencijalna primjena u skladištenju vodika.
Abstract (english)
Quasicrystals are solids whose structures may possess crystallographically impermissible rotational symmetries, for example of the 5th order, and do not possess the translational invariance that is characteristic of classical crystals. Due to their complex structure, many models have been developed by which we can describe them. According to the structure, quasicrystals can be divided into two groups: icosahedral and polygonal. Although the most common alloys are composed of two or three metals, they conduct electricity and heat very poorly, and due to low friction coefficient, low thermal conductivity, strength and corrosion resistance, quasicrystals can be applied to kitchen utensils, car engines, operating instruments, etc. Also of great importance is their potential application in hydrogen storage.
